Profile
| The research of my group focuses on the molecular control of cardiac differentiation and the elucidation of mechanisms regulating heart morphogenesis. We are using the chick embryo for various manipulations involving signaling molecules and transcription factors important for heart field formation, left-right asymmetry, and coronary artery development. In addition we are studying a novel family of membrane proteins with an abundant expression in heart and skeletal muscle. We have generated kockout mutations for two of the three members present in the mammalian genome and are currently involved in generating a mouse mutant that lack the entire Popeye gene family. In addition we perform experiments to characterize the function of this genes at the cellular and protein level. |
